[email protected] Beginning Jan. 10th (808) 875-7588 Course Description: Have you always wanted to learn how to play bridge? Has it been awhile since you played bridge in college or at a friend’s house? This is the class for you! THIS IS BRAND NEWTO BRIDGE! This class is tailored to the person who has little knowledge of the game of bridge but who really wants to know enough to play on a social level and/or advance to playing duplicate bridge. You will learn all the basics of bridge. Basics covered: What is Chicago, Party and Duplicate Style Bridge? Bridge terminology –What is the meaning of Pass, Declarer, Responder, Over Bidder, Doubleton, Contract, Suit, Singleton, Stiff, Trump – No Trump, Rough, Set, Finesse etc. What is the pack? Who shuffles/cuts the pack and where are the cards placed? How to use a bidding box (maybe)? What is a board? How do you keep score? When and why does one bid? How do you know if you can open? How to count High Card Points, length and shortness points. How do you win at the game? What is a bid and what does it mean? (e.g. 2 hearts means to win 6 tricks PLUS 2) What “trump”/no trump”, “game/slam” means The difference between Trump and Notrump games Execute playing both trump and no trump hands B RAND N EWTO B RIDGE T HURSDAYS 2:00-4:00 PM– E ISENHOWER R OOM Expectations and goals: Learn the vocabulary of bridge, learn about the newest bidding systems, duplicate boards, bidding boxes, proper etiquette, how to keep score (Duplicate Style, Chicago Style), convention cards and much more! Prerequisites: None Suggested reading: Audrey Grant’s Bridge Basics 1 Class Schedule: Each week we will develop the very basics of bridge. Our progress will be at class level repeating until there is a strong foundation for moving onto the next step. While it is always good to attend each lesson, you will feel comfortable to come to any class and learn the basics that day. By the end of the season you will be able to play a hand of bridge and have enough knowledge not to be intimidated playing with others. The most important thing to remember is we learned how to do the most basic but difficult things by crawling then walking. There are so many of us at the crawling stage in bridge.
