[email protected] Beginning Jan. 14th (503) 349.1803 Course Description: These classes will NOT be concerned with any of the new and mostly unnecessary conventions which have surfaced in the last few years. They will deal with the understanding of the basics of bridge. Bridge does have some memory work involved but the most important thing is understanding and thinking. Bidding The importance of finding major suit fits. Partnership agreements. Understanding the intricacies of Stayman and Transfers. Organizing your preempts. 2C openers. Slam bidding tools such as Jacoby 2NT, Splinters, Quantitative 4NT, Roman Keycard Blackwood, etc. Takeout Doubles, Negative Doubles, Lead Directing Doubles. Declarer Play Planning your tactics. Ways to gain extra tricks. Ways to avoid losers by ruffing and by setting up long suits. The importance of entries. Defense Opening leads. Communicating with partner by the cards which you play. Attitude, Count and Suit Preference. Expectations and goals: The goal of this series is to make sure that players realize that understanding and thinking are the most important things needed to become a good bridge player. Observation and concentration, followed by making the right conclusions, is what bridge is all about.
