[email protected] Beginning Jan. 24th (503) 349-1802 Course Description: Emphasis is on understanding and thinking rather than memory and new conventions Bidding We will examine the agreements and conventions which you already know and make sure that you are using them to be more competitive. We will investigate the use of Cuebidding the opponents' suit as a way to solve bidding problems and re- examine the importance of finding suit fits in both the majors and minors. Declarer Play In each class, the example hands will incorporate the techniques of planning your declarer play, using ruffing, setting up long suits and organizing your entries. There will be some attention given to ways to force your opponents to make favorable leads i.e. End Plays. Defense Cards can talk. You and your partner should be able to communicate to each other by the cards that you play. Attitude, Count and Suit Preference should all be incorporated into the signaling which you should be doing on every hand where you are defending. Expectations and goals: To improve your involvement, concentration and enjoyment of the game. To make you more competitive by interfering with the opponents' bidding. To improve the communication with your partner both in the bidding and when you are defending. I NTERMEDIATE /A DVANCED – LEVEL IV T HURSDAYS 10:00 AM – E ISENHOWER R OOM Prerequisites: You should be familiar with the basics of bidding, defending and declaring; either by taking the beginning and intermediate classes or by having played the game for some time. Suggested reading: Audrey Grant's Bidding in the 21st Century , Defense in the 21st Century and Play of the Hand in the 21st Century are all relevant to the themes of this course.
